The history of the British pound begins as early as 1158
…When exchange for silver was introduced by Henry II. The name we use is colloquial. The pound sterling is the official currency of Great Britain. It is considered the oldest among those present!
In 1988, the government led by Margaret Thatcher tied the pound to the German Mark, and in 1990 the British pound was included in the ERM system. It didn’t take long because in 1992 investor George Soros pulled sterling out of the ERM system.
